Neurofeedback
1) How long does it take to see an effect with neurofeedback?[^]It varies between individuals. Some report progress in just 10 sessions while others may require 20 to 40 sessions to see visible improvements. Neurofeedback is a learning process and several factors affect the outcome. One of them is the motivation of the trainee. Like all training programs, neurofeedback requires effort on the part of the trainee to try to change his/her brainwaves. Usually, we see those who put in effort (to score points) tend to improve faster compared with those who are not. In addition to effort, biochemistry plays a crucial role in their progress. Those with high toxic metal accumulation in the body, nutritional imbalances and food allergies tends to take longer time to respond to this training. This is why we do a range of laboratory tests to determine if there is a need to address their biochemistry so that they will respond faster to neurofeedback.
2) During the training session, the person appears to be engaged in games, but when it comes to studying, will this brain exercise help one to focus?[^]
Yes. During the brain exercise one learns how to regulate his/her brainwaves. Over time, once the person starts to internalize the learning process, he/she will be able to produce the desirable brainwave patterns independently in one’s daily activities, without needing any cues from the Neurofeedback system. Testimonies from parents also indicate this.

3) Would the benefit gained from neurofeedback training sustain?[^]
Yes. Many long term studies have been done showing that the benefits from neurofeedback are maintained. It is a skill that is learnt, like cycling and swimming. Once internalized, a person will be able to self regulate his/her mental function. This skill to self regulate is the key to better performance.

4) How frequent will neurofeedback sessions be?[^]
We would recommend at least two to three sessions per week for initial stage of training. Training can gradually reduce to once or twice a week when one starts to internalize this learning process and can better control his/her brainwaves. With our Home Training Program, training can be done more frequently (say 5 to 7 session per week) at the comfort of one’s home and at much lower costs for long term solution. Similar to physical exercise, regular training will produce a better effect.

5) Are there any side-effects with Neurofeedback?[^]
Neurofeedback is safe and non-invasive method. It is also a non-drug alternative for many conditions such as Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD. As it is a non-drug based intervention, there are no side-effects.

6) Can neurofeedback be applied to very young child?[^]
Yes, we do work with children as young as three years old. To get them engaged, we use their favorite video or music as feedback. Even toddlers as young as 18 months can be trained. Early intervention is always preferred for developmental problems. Our therapists are also trained to handle young children and to entice them to engage on the neurofeedback training.

Qualitative Electroencephalography (qEEG)
1) What are the preparations required prior to QEEG Brain mapping?[^]There are several recommended preparations. One is the hair needs to be shampooed just before or as close as possible during the time for QEEG Brain Mapping. The person must have an adequate rest the night before and shouldn’t have taken any medications if possible. Kindly inform us if you are taking any medications.
2) How do I get my QEEG brain mapping done?[^]
Give us a call or email us to arrange for an appointment.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)
1) What is hair tissue mineral analysis?[^]Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) is a scientific test which measures the mineral content of the hair. Toxicity indication will also be tested.
2) What are the toxic elements tested?[^]
Toxic metals such as mercury, cadmium, lead, aluminium and many more are tested. High concentration of mercury, which exists in fish, has been known to cause problems in motor function, language, memory.

3) Why don’t we simply use blood or urine?[^]
Hair sampling is a non-invasive and ideal tissue for sampling and testing. Compared to blood, which gives information about the mineral levels at the time of test and urine indicates mineral levels that are excreted from the body, HTMA is able to reveal the actual storage of mineral levels over time. One and a half inches of hair indicates the average over a period of about two months.

4) Are minerals important?[^]
Trace minerals are essential for countless metabolic functions in the body. While the body can manufacture many vitamins, it cannot manufacture minerals. Hence, minerals play a more vital factor in nutrition.

7) Isn’t taking multi-vitamins sufficient?[^]
Everyone has different nutritional requirements. The multi-vitamins that are available are not sufficient to cater to different needs. For instance, your body may have enough calcium but is lacking of magnesium. With this, the multi-vitamins are not replenishing your body with adequate magnesium that your body requires.

8) What are the preparations that I need to do prior to doing a hair analysis?[^]
- Hair to be washed clean and dry.
- Use non-anti-dandruff shampoo. If anti-dandruff shampoo is used, use a mild shampoo to wash the hair for at least a week before obtaining the hair.
- Hair should be free of gels, oils, and hair creams prior to sample collection.
- Make sure minimum hair length is 1 inch at the back of the head.
9)How do I get my hair tested?[^]
You can either come to our office to get your hair sampled. Simply call us for an appointment. You can also sample your hair at home or a hair saloon. Call or email us for a hair sampling kit. The sampling kits contains instructions on how to sample your hair. After sampling, send your hair sample to us.

11) I am bald. Is there other ways to get myself tested for toxic metals?[^]
Other body hair such as pubic hair or armpit hair can be used for the purpose of testing for toxic metals accumulation in body. However, it may not reflect the accurate levels of other nutritional minerals in the body due to the difference in metabolic growth rate compared to scalp hair.

12)I colored my hair. Can I do this test?[^]
It would be ideal if you could wait until sufficient untreated hair emerge to allow for sampling. This is especially so for those who have some health concerns. But for those with no major health concern, colored hair is acceptable as the chemical used in coloring is different from those being tested.

Urine Analysis
1) How do I know if urine analysis is right for me?[^]Healthy gastrointestinal functioning is the basis of overall physical and psychological health. Abnormal toxic metabolites of intestinal microorganisms can cause or worsen behaviour disorders, hyperactivity, and aggressiveness, affect energy levels, mood and immune functioning. These imbalances can contribute to food allergies, digestive disorders, or vitamin and nutritional deficiencies which in turn can lead to dysfunction in other systems of the body.
2) What are tested?[^]
Yeast, fungi, organic acids oxalates and other metabolites which can indicate your nutritional needs are tested in the urine analysis.

Blood Tests
1) What is a food allergy?[^]A food allergy happens when your immune system creates specific antibodies to defend against a particular food. Some people can tolerate a large degree of allergens without experiencing any outward symptoms which others may only require a minute amount of exposure to these allergens before symptoms are expressed.
2) Who is at risk for food allergies?[^]
Everyone is at risk for food allergies. However, individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, autism, depression, learning difficulties, sleep disorders, seizures, irritable bowel syndrome and eczema are often at higher risk.

4) What do the Food Allergies Blood Tests indicates?[^]
The food allergies blood test is a useful guide in structuring elimination diets for many chronic conditions. In the test, 96 types of food allergies immediate and/or delayed will be reported. Complete elimination of potential problem foods from the diet may bring about striking improvements in health status, mood, energy, and even behaviour.

5) I understand that there are two types of food allergy test. What are the differences?[^]
IgE allergy is often called the hypersensitivity. In other words, it is refer as undesirable, damaging and sometimes fatal reactions produced by the immune system against a particular food. IgG, on the other hand, is a useful guide in structuring elimination diets. People may often eat the offending food, unaware of the potential effects.
