Neurofeedback is a special technique to exercise specific parts of the brain. It is like going to the gymnasium to exercise your body. At the gym, you can workout your arms, legs and body so that they function better, leading to better performance. This enhances your well-being and gives you a better quality of life. In neurofeedback we use special equipment to help you exercise different parts of the brain. This leads to better mental functioning such as better focus, improve memory, better thinking, reasoning and improve language skills. These mental faculties cannot be improved through physical exercises. As such, neurofeedback brain exercise also improves your well-being and quality of life through better brain function.

How is Neurofeedback possible?

We are usually not aware of what goes on in our brain as we cannot see or feel our mental activities. Fortunately, our brain sends out electrical signals called brain waves or electroencephalograph (EEG). These brain waves indicate our mental states and its changes reflect the nature of mental activities. Using a special device called an EEG amplifier, we can measure the brain waves at specific locations on the scalp and send it to a computer for analysis. The analyzed brain waves can be presented back to the conscious self in a meaningful way so that a person can become aware of the neural activities. Once a person is aware of the neural activities, he/she can learn to regulate or change the neural activities. The ability to regulate or change the neural activities at will is the key to better functioning!

Neurofeedback is safe and non-invasive:

It is a very safe as it is non-invasive. Sensors are placed on the scalp to detect the brain waves. We only measure what the brain sends out. Nothing is discharged or sent into the brain. It is like measuring your heart beat when you go for a heart checkup. It is amazing that such a non-invasive method of learning to regulate our brain’s neural activities can lead to such a profound impact on our mental functioning such as learning ability, mood, sleep and behavior. This is evident from the vast amount of scientific studies and clinical observations accumulated since the early 1970s.

How Neurofeedback can help in brain functioning

The brain has the potential to be trained so that its brainwaves ‘behave' in a desirable and helpful way for the individual to function or learn in daily life. Neurofeedback trains the brain through providing feedback on one's brainwave through the form of computer games or other modalities.

Lasting Change

Once successful in achieving a change in brainwave pattern over a period of training, the individual can experience a change in brain functioning such as having enhanced mental agility. The effect is enduring once the person starts to internalize the learning process. Subsequently, he/she will be able to produce the desirable brainwave patterns independently without needing any cues from the Neurofeedback system.

The Many Benefits of Neurofeedback

Using this technique, it is now possible to train a person's brain at various locations of one's brain. Neurofeedback has been proven to be a safe and effective alternative for the treatment of diagnosed conditions such as attention deficit hyperactive disorder, autism, learning disabilities, epilepsy, migraine, stress and more ( See Application ). Neurofeedback training also leads to improvements in various mental abilities such as improved attention and IQ (see Peak Performance).

Spectrum Learning Neurofeedback in a nutshell

We are the first to offer neurofeedback in Asia in 1995. We are among the pioneers in the USA, Australia and Europe to offer brain exercise using neurofeedback.

We are also into research and development of new protocols and equipment to enhance the efficacy of our programs

We provide In House Neurofeedback Training at our Spectrum Learning Office. Our therapists have years of experience in Neurotherapy.

We also provide Home Training Program for parents who wish to do the Neurofeedback on their own homes over a long period at a low cost. Immediate service is provided to troubleshoot any technical problems that one might encounter.
